Steven was born in Mississauga, Ontario in 1966. He is a contemporary realist painter whose home and studio are located in Orangeville, Ontario.

Before earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts at Queen’s University in 1989, Steven gained significant experience as a working artist, completing numerous commissioned paintings throughout high school and university. At Queen's, his understanding of art and art history broadened quickly, and teaching seemed like a sensible next step.

Steven brought a fresh and young approach to intermediate / senior art classes during his brief stint in education, though computer graphics would provide some of the creative outlet that was missing. Following training from Sheridan College in 1995, Steven spent the next twelve years as a successful freelance designer.

Paintings were sporadic throughout this period, but Steven felt compelled to make changes that would put his art at the forefront of his professional life. Today, he is able to devote significant time to his painting as an experienced - but still emerging - artist.

Steven's compositions are characterized by carefully considered structure, impressionistic brushwork and evocative content. Each series of paintings reinforces the diversity of his growing body of work.
